The Dudley Safeguarding Children Board replaced the Area Child Protection Committee (ACPC) from 22 April 2005. This is a statutory requirement and means for the first time that, as part of the Every Child Matters reforms, all organisations that work with children are required to participate.

The Dudley Safeguarding Board continues to have functions based on those of the ACPC but also co-ordinates the wider safeguarding activity in the borough with a focus on prevention as well as protection.

This Board is made up of representatives from organisations that have responsibility for services to children or have regular contact with children.

At the heart of the establishment of the Board is the desire to develop a shared sense of responsibility across all agencies working with children, their families and communities to keep children safe from harm.

We will aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children. We know from research, from experience and from consultation with children in our borough that ‘feeling and being safe’ is something that matters to every child.  We also know that some groups of children are particularly vulnerable to being abused, neglected and sexually exploited, such as disabled children or young people with mental health problems.

Our Safeguarding Board will:

  •  "have a business like focus"

  •  "have capacity and resources"

  •  "hold and be held to account"

  •  "make a difference to children's lives"

  •  "be seen and heard"

  •  "encourage agencies and communities to work together"

  •  "have children's voices percolating all that we do"
